A powerful way

of treating opposing ideas is to suppose that
each one is correct
under certain circumstances.

Six Thinking Hat by Edward de Bono
Instead of judging
our way forward,

we need to
design our way forward.

We need to be thinking about
'what can be', not just about
'what is'.

Youth is the gift of nature.
but age is a work of art.

Well she's walking through the clouds
With a
circus mind that's running round
Butterflies and zebras
And moonbeams and fairy tales
That's all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind.

When I'm sad, she comes to me
With
a thousand smiles,
she gives to me free
It's alright she says it's alright
Take anything you want
from me,
anything.

JIMI HENDRIX -
LITTLE WING LYRICS
By chance, Jimi Hendrix came up the stairs and found me sitting there like some hick wallflower and grinned.

He spent a little time with me on the stairs and told me his vision of what he wanted to do with the studio. He dreamed of amassing musicians from all over
the world in Woodstock and they would
sit in a
field in a circle and play and play.
It
didn't matter what key or tempo or what melody, they would keep on playing through their discordance until they found a common language.
Eventually they would record
this abstract
universal language of music in his new studio.

"Nobody sees
as we do, Patti," he said again.

Whenever he said things
like that, for

a magical space of time,

it was
as if we were
the only two people
in the world.

As if it was the most natural thing in the world we stayed together, not leaving each other's side save to go to work.
Nothing was spoken; it was
just mutually
understood.

In this stretch of timelessness,
I stopped.
I suddenly saw him,
his green eyes, his dark locks.
I heard his voice above the gulls,
the
childish laughter,
and the roar of the waves.

Smile for me, Patti,
as
I am
smiling for you.
So my last image was as the first, A sleeping youth cloaked
in
light, who opened his eyes with a smile of recognition for someone who had never been a stranger.

According to Dante, we're all Dorian Grays, creating monstrous selves and devising monstrous punishments
for ourselves. What makes Dante's vision incomparably grander than Wilde's is that,
not only does he show that
       we each create
     a heaven and hell

inside us,
he also shows what our misdeeds do to the structure and very texture of the world.

To me, Robert and I were irrevocably entwined, like Paul and Elisabeth, the sister and brother in Cocteau's Les Enfants Terribles. We played similar games, declared the most obscure object treasure, and often puzzled friends and aquaintances by our indefinable devotion.

I'm in Mike Hammer mode, puffing on Kools reading cheap detective novels sitting in the lobby waiting for William Burroughs.
He comes in dressed to the nines in a dark gabardine overcoat, gray suit, and tie. I sit for a few hours at my post scribbling poems.
He comes stumbling out of the El Quixote a bit drunk and disheveled. I straighten his tie and hail him a cab. It's our unspoken routine.

"Kidney beans."

"Why are you eating them?"

"To piss off Pythagoras."

"Under the stars?"

"Out of the circles."

The brain is designed
as a 'recognition machine'.
The
brain is designed to set up patterns, to use them and condemn anything that does not 'fit' these patterns.
Most
thinkers like to be secure. They like to be right.

Creativity involves provocation, exploration and
risk taking.

Creativity involves 'thought experiments '.

You can not tell in advance how the experiments is going to turn out.
But you want to be able to carry out the experiments .

Robert trusted in the law of empathy, by which he could,
by his will, transfer himself into

He did not feel redeemed by the work he did.
He

No wonder the brain was said to consume forty-percent
of
the
body's total energy!

From 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
Though the expansion
of the brain
people
had acquired
the
concept of temporary,
but they simultaneously learned
ways
in which
to change and adjust time.

In
parallel with their ceaseless comsumption of time,
people
would cease-lessly
reproduce time
that they had mentally adjusted.

This was no ordinary feat.
Do you know who
Ekwon
and Friesen are?
They
are two psychologists
who
have discovered that

when you smile
the facial muscles set off
some chemical reactions in your brain, which gives you a more positive attitude towards the world around you,
makes you more satisfied
with your existance.
What they did was to prove me
old adage
that if you smile at the world, the whole world smiles at you. For a while she got me to believe that.
